RESIDENTIAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES FOR 9 - 17 YEAR OLDS - SINCE 1988

EFL TEACHER

Exsportise runs residential English language summer courses combined with specialist activities for 9-17 year olds. Our programmes allow students to improve their practical and spoken English by attending structured English lessons as well as engaging in an activity of their choice. The specialist activities offered are: Tennis, Golf, Arsenal Soccer Schools, Hockey, Rugby, Basketball, Horse Riding, Music and Dance.

All staff are expected to provide an acceptable high standard of language learning opportunities to all students through EFL lessons, specialist activities, social and cultural exposure.

Exsportise has been awarded EL Gazette “Centre of Excellence” status based on British Council Inspectors publishable statements.

All duties are subject to change at the discretion of the Recruitment Manager.

Main Roles:

  • To prepare and deliver high-quality lessons to the expected standard, i.e. lessons that motivate the class and have variety, pace and challenge all the students in line with the Exsportise ethos (see syllabus).
  • To complete administrative duties such as maintaining accurate lesson plans, class profiles, registers and weekly log of work done.
  • To liaise with other teachers and DoS on weekly planning.
  • To write weekly Progress Reports for all students (even if not leaving or if students change programme after just a few days)
  • To ensure that student notebooks are up-to-date, work is marked, mistakes have been corrected and students’ self reviews have been completed
  • To ensure that classroom displays are clear, vibrant, illustrative and representative of the students’ weeks work.
  • To take responsibility for the safety, welfare and behaviour of all students during the EFL programme time, being especially vigilant when taking students off site

Band 1 (1 – 2 years’ (not summers’) teaching experience)

  • 1 teaching shift and 1 evening events shift per weekday
  • You will teach 2 x 90 minute sessions (maximum class size is 14). Sessions are broken down into 2 x 45 minute lessons, the skill sections to cover are: Grammar, Speaking and Listening or Vocabulary and Project Work

Band 2 (3 – 4 years’ (not summers’) teaching experience):

  • 1 teaching shift and 1 evening events shift or 2 teaching shifts per weekday
  • Per teaching shift you will teach 2 x 90 minute sessions (maximum class size is 14). Sessions are broken down into 2 x 45 minute lessons, the skill sections to cover are: Grammar, Speaking and Listening or Vocabulary and Project Work
  • If you work 2 teaching shifts you will teach 3 x 90 minute sessions and will be given 1 x 90 session for extra prep time.

Band 3 (5 & more years’ (not summers’) teaching experience):

  • 2 teaching shifts per weekday
  • Per teaching shift you will teach 2 x 90 minute sessions (maximum class size is 14). Sessions are broken down into 2 x 45 minute lessons, the skill sections to cover are: Grammar, Speaking and Listening or Vocabulary and Project Work
  • If you work 2 teaching shifts you will teach 3 x 90 minute sessions and will be given 1 x 90 session for extra prep time.
  • Alternatively, you may teach one shift only and be asked to support a Band 1 or Band 2 teacher or act as cover teacher
  • To support the DoS with increasing language learning opportunities during sport and music sessions.
  • To assist the DoS with Placement Testing if required and any other reasonable duties.

Additional Duties:

  • To carry out mealtime supervision, wake-up and bedtime duties on a rota basis, which includes being responsible for the bed and fire registers.
  • To follow guideline as outlined in the Staff and EFL Handbooks and as explained by the Centre Manager / DoS
  • If required to assist with airport transfers, excursions and/or student check-ins at the centre during weekends. Wherever possible you will be able to stay on site for extra lesson preparation time.
  • To attend daily staff meetings
  • To help set up / pack up camp as required
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties

Personal Specification:

  • First degree or equivalent
  • CELTA, Trinity TESOL or equivalent with appropriate age group teaching experience
  • Highly organised with excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and friendly
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours
  • Professionalism: being of smart appearance appropriate to the role and using appropriate language

Days Off/Time Off:

  • All rotas and days off are arranged by the Centre Manager. Any issues or changes regarding the rota and/or days off must be approved by the Centre Manager
  • You are entitled to one 24-hour period off per week
  • You are entitled to the equivalent of one shift off each day from Monday to Friday (shifts are: wake-up – lunch, lunch – dinner, dinner – bedtime)
  • You will be asked to sign the 48 hour working week opt-out agreement
  • Due to the nature of the weekend activities (transfers and excursions), you are required to work all three shifts on these days.
