DIRECTOR OF STUDIES
Exsportise runs residential English language summer courses combined with specialist activities for 9-17 year olds. Our programmes allow students to improve their practical and spoken English by attending structured English lessons as well as engaging in an activity of their choice. The specialist activities offered are: Tennis, Golf, Arsenal Soccer Schools, Hockey, Rugby, Basketball, Horse Riding, Music and Dance.

All staff are expected to provide an acceptable high standard of language learning opportunities to all students through EFL lessons, specialist activities, social and cultural exposure.
Exsportise has been awarded EL Gazette “Centre of Excellence” status based on British Council Inspectors publishable statements.
All duties are subject to change at the discretion of the Recruitment Manager.
Main Roles:
- To understand how the Exsportise language programme works and to ensure that all teaching, processes and paperwork meet British Council standards at all times.
- To lead a team of EFL teachers and to provide the necessary guidance and support to ensure they are teaching to an acceptably high level. If necessary run a “Buddy system” for less experienced teachers.
- To create and maintain a positive atmosphere amongst EFL staff and language students within the EFL programme.
- To observe and appraise all teachers and provide constructive feedback.
- To monitor teachers’ lesson plans and lesson records, ensuring lessons plans show variety, a good pace and are challenging for the students.
- To assess the standard of all language students and to place them into classes according to their ability.
- To take responsibility for the safety, welfare and behaviour, including discipline, of all students during the English programme time.
- To deal with any queries or problems that staff, students, parents or agents may have about the teaching of EFL in a calm and efficient manner.
- To ensure that student folders are up-to-date, work is marked, mistakes have been corrected and students’ self reviews have been completed
- To ensure that classroom displays are clear, vibrant, illustrative and representative of the students’ weeks work.
- To ensure written reports are being completed for each language student (even if they changed off English) at the end of each week and to carry out an end of week presentation of certificates and Awards.
- To act as cover teacher when necessary (usually to cover sickness, so unlikely to be more than once a fortnight).
- To run twice weekly EFL staff meetings and CPD sessions.
- To provide elocution guidance to activity coaches in order to link English language learning taking place inside of classrooms with activity programmes.
Additional Duties:
- To carry out mealtime supervision at least once a week, as directed by the Centre Manager.
- To be on site on Sundays to welcome new arrivals and be present for the Welcome Meeting where all senior staff gets introduced to the students and EFL register may be checked.
- To attend daily staff meetings
- To follow guideline as outlined in the Staff Handbook and as explained by the Centre Manager.
- To help set up / pack up camp as required
- To carry out any other reasonable duties
Personal Specification:
- First degree or equivalent
- DELTA, Trinity Diploma in TESOL or equivalent
- Previous DOS/ADOS experience with this age group; able to lead and motivate a team of staff
- Independent and able to problem solve
- Strong leadership skills, be able to manage, develop and motivate a team of coaches and able to set high standards
- Able to deal well with pressure and to multi-task
- Enthusiastic and friendly
- Excellent communication skills with people of all levels
- Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours
Days Off/Time Off:
- All rotas and days off are arranged by the Centre Manager. Any issues or changes regarding the rota and/or days off must be approved by the Centre Manager.
- You are entitled to one 24-hour period off per week, due to the nature of your role this will usually be Saturdays.
- You are entitled to the equivalent of one shift off each day from Monday to Friday (shifts are: wake-up – lunch, lunch – dinner, dinner – bedtime). Due to the nature of your role this shift will usually be dinner – bedtime.
- You will be asked to sign the 48 hour working week opt-out agreement.
- Due to the nature of the weekend activities (departures and arrivals), you are required to work all three shifts on these days. Due to the nature of your role you will most likely be working on site on Sundays to welcome your new students.
